Our Favorite Spaghetti

The best spaghetti! Thick, hearty, flavorful spaghetti sauce perfect for a weeknight meal. Serve with garlic bread or toast.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 ribs celery, sliced in half lengthwise, then diced
  • 4 oz mushrooms, diced
  • 1 cup loosely packed basil, then chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • salt to taste, for us, we use about 1-1.5 tsp
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 14.5 oz petite diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz tomato sauce

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage, breaking it apart, add the onion, celery, and mushrooms. Continue to cook and break apart the meat. Cook until meat is no longer pink and is browning and sticking to the pan, make sure to scrape up those brown bits!

  • Add the seasonings and olive oil, stirring until fragrant.
    1 cup loosely packed basil, then chopped, 2 tablespoon Italian seasoning, 3 garlic cloves, minced, salt to taste, for us, we use about 1-1.5 tsp, 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Add the tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce, stir until bubbly. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 30 mins or so. Taste and add more salt if needed
    28 oz can crushed tomatoes, 14.5 oz petite diced tomatoes, 8 oz tomato sauce

NUGGETS OF KNOWLEDGE
Sweet Italian Sausage - you can use either the pork or turkey version. If you can only find the links, just remove the casings and break the meat up while browning it.
Petite tomatoes - I like to Hunts or Muir Glen
Crushed tomatoes - Again, Hunts or Muir Glen are my go-to
Tomato sauce - can you guess? Hunts or Muir Glen, all the way!!
Italian Seasonings - I mostly use Simply Organic or McCormick
