Hello! Welcome to my little part of the interwebs, as we like to call it in our home. We at Oh Fer Eat Sakes! are excited you are here and happy to share my beloved recipes with you! Our name came from me over exaggerating the saying (in the best Minnesota accent you can conjure up) Oh Fer Pete's Sakes! My husband, Michael thought a fun little play on the words would capture my silliness and love for feeding people, and it did perfectly! Oh Fer Eat Sakes! is a place you can come to get my tested and loved recipes for meals, snacks, and desserts.
My love of cooking and baking came as I was starting a family, my husband and I were young and had 4 kids to feed. We needed good food and lots of it! Over the years, our tastes changed a lot as we grew more "adventurous"! We've learned to love foods from all over. There are a couple items you won't ever find in my recipes though - I despise peas and seafood, so you won't find any of that here! My daughter likes to tell me to "grow up and just eat it, mom!" I've tried. I just can't do it. I figure I make plenty of other veggies and delicious food, I don't need peas and seafood 😛
I grew up in a large household, I have 4 brothers and 1 sister. We didn't eat out very often, rarely had take out, and always had good food to eat. My parents were really big on the old farmer-like dinner: meat, potatoes, veggie; and of course, the hotdishes! Pretty basic and not ever really changing it up. While this sustained me in my youth, I came to love experimenting with other food types. I love grains, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, curries, beans, oh man...the list goes on and on! These days, we don't have the classic meat, potatoes, and veggie very often - however, when we do, I think fondly of my childhood and my parents.
Michael and I have 4 adult children, each with their significant other and I love testing my new stuff out on them. Two of them are vegan, so I have been doing a lot learning about how to make really great vegan food. I will be incorporating these soon as well! We live in Andover, MN and have 2 dogs and 1 cat, I affectionately call my blondies. Shiro is a mixed breed dog with white/blonde floofy hair and Leo is a white/blonde cocker spaniel/shelte mix, technically my grandpuppy, finally, Toula is a domestic shorthair cat with mostly white fur with little ginger patches. They are all very spoiled and enjoy the occasional snacks I make too.
