It was a Wednesday night about 10 years ago, it was March 14...pie day. My son was going to a pie night at church and needed to bring a pie...I was told this at like 330pm. Sigh...so I am in the grocery store looking around. I was freaking out about what I was going to feed him before he ate a crap ton of pie. Then I saw it....premade mac&cheese. I knew I had to come up with something good!
My brain started turning and I was like, uhh....why don't I just make a savory pie and send that!??! Then I would know he'd have some real food before gorging himself on all things pie. It was an instant hit. I never had so many requests for a recipe in my life! You could easily omit the ham if you don't like it. I have made it without and didn't have to make any other changes to the recipe.
I totally understand this is CARB OVERLOAD!! We don't make this a lot, but when we do, it's a fam fav. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Let me know in the comments!
Mac&Cheese Pie
Ingredients
- 1 box Pillsburry pre made pie crust can make your own - but this way it gets it done fast!
- 2- 20 oz pre-made mac&cheese see notes
- 8 oz diced ham
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese any cheddar will work! We like sharp cheddar
- ⅓ cup milk any milk will do, I use 1%
- egg wash 1 egg + 1 teaspoon of milk or water
- seasoning mix see notes
Instructions
- Let the pie crust sit out for 10-20 mins so it's easier to roll out. Pre-heat the oven to 375°1 box Pillsburry pre made pie crust

- Roll out the top crust to slightly larger than it already is, place on top of the mac&cheese mixture. Seal the edges together and crimp them, make 4 slits in the pie to allow steam to escape
